Have a Fitness Resolution? Here are the Fitness Classes for You

Setting fitness resolutions can seem overwhelming or overly-ambitious, and you might be feeling lost as to where to get started. There are so many different classes and gyms to join that it can be harder to get started than anything. Many of us set fitness resolutions at the beginning of the year, but many of us also set smaller goals throughout the year, especially now as we get ready for summer. Whatever they may be, we’ve come up with the best classes to reach your goals

If your fitness resolution is to tone up…

Try: Barre, Pilates, Hot Yoga

Look for refined workouts whose focus is on strengthening and lengthening your body parts at the same time, such as barre, Pilates, and hot yoga. Though each type of class will give you a very different workout, all three focus on incorporating small, controlled movements in patterns that work your center core and overall body positioning and mechanics. These tend to offer little pounding or pressure on your joints/ligaments so it’s a great option for beginners as well as experienced athletes looking for an alternative.

If your fitness resolution is to be more disciplined…

Try: Bootcamps and HIIT (High Intensity Internal Training)

If you’re having trouble sticking to the right kinds of workouts upon arrival or truly giving it your all in class, you might want to consider classes that are more regimented, such as bootcamp or HIIT. These classes are targeted for a whole-body workout, and with an expert instructor and guidance, you are encouraged to perform them accurately to be most effective. Having this instructor on hand to correct your positioning and motivate you to keep you your effort can really help if you’re craving more routine and discipline in your workouts.

If your fitness resolution is to get off the treadmill and elliptical…

Try: Cardio dance and Zumba

Sick of the same old workouts and the monotony of something like a treadmill or elliptical? Step out of your comfort zone and try an upbeat class like cardio dance or Zumba. While these types of classes may seem intimidating, most of the people that are signing up are not professional dancers either, they’re simply people looking to have a bit of fun while they exercise, like you!

If your fitness resolution is relieve stress…

Try: Kickboxing, Boxing, Restorative Yoga

We all can use some TLC to de-stress either at the beginning or the end of our day. Some fitness classes are specifically designed to relax and soothe you and re-center you so you’re better prepared to face challenges. Kickboxing helps you relieve that stress or tension you might be feeling and restorative yoga incorporates a series of poses that allow you to relax and rest.

Whether or not you’re already signed up for an exercise event like a 5k, half marathon, or other type of sporting event like a Spartan race, a great fitness resolution is committing to proper training. Signing up for an event can help you create that routine around a certain end date/goal in mind. If you don’t have access to a track or soccer field, simply sign up for a running club or indoor treadmill workout. These long cardio, endurance classes will help you train effectively and increase your speed and endurance to get in top shape for your big race.
